I got to teach a science lesson to a class of 1st graders yesterday. It was a lot of fun seeing the kids get so fired up about the experiments. We talked about studying science and then focused on physics and the concept of air pressure.
We did several experiments together including the magical upside down water glass trick. The grand finale was to show them a vortex cannon I built – very similar to the one shown here. All of us took turns trying to shoot fog rings across the room and knock down pyramids of styrofoam cups. I think they would have played with that thing all day if we had let them. And I can’t say I blame them – that thing rocks!
